By Editor, Rapid TV News | Tue, 23 Oct 2012
Caribbean, Central America and Andean services provider Columbus Communications has turned to Norwegian content protection firm Conax and its partners to secure revenues for its new IP video technology platform.
One of Caribbean’s Largest MSOs, Columbus is offering IP VOD and TV Everywhere based around a pre-integrated hybrid IP video platform by Conax, Evolution Digital, and Cubiware among other partners.
The new digital IP Video Platform supports HD hybrid IP STBs with support for adaptive bit rate technology delivering IP VOD content. The Platform will support delivery of content across multiscreen devices and provide features like “Follow me” and “Pause live TV”.
Explained Darren Richer, Chief Technology Officer, Columbus Communications: “In order to expand our reach across the region and offer new enhanced services in cost-effective ways, we chose to work with vendors who bring their respective strengths in products and knowledge to deliver future-proof adaptive bit rate technology to provide IP VOD and TV Everywhere.”
Added Rohit Mehra, VP of Americas, Conax: “The core of the Columbus Communications IP VOD and multiscreen platform is based on the Conax Xtend multiscreen solution. The ease of the core platform to integrate into Columbus Communications choice of encoding, CDN and user interface vendor platforms [offers a solution that] is truly innovative, flexible and cost effective.”
