MPEG-4 HD Gives You Up to 2 ½ Times the Efficiency of MPEG-2

(Centennial, CO - June 23, 2008) Evolution Digital, a leading innovator, manufacturer and supplier of All-Digital systems and drop solutions, is pleased to announce the launch of the first all MPEG-4 interactive digital headend for cable currently running live in the Evolution Engineering & Demo Center in Centennial, Colorado.

Evolution and its technology partners are spearheading a complete MPEG-4 turnkey digital solution, including headend, conditional access (Conax CAS7), set-tops, installation, integration and ongoing technical support. "It is our mandate to provide small to medium size cable operators with the same innovative digital products and services previously only available to large urban systems for a fraction of the cost." The programmers, content providers and satellite/Telco competitors are already moving to MPEG-4, which means cable operators will be at a disadvantage if they do not make the move to this more bandwidth efficient technology. The only solution being offered today for cable operators is a complex and expensive headend converter to transcode MPEG-4 to less efficient MPEG-2. This is like reversing the automobile back to the horse and cart.


In addition to the advantages of MPEG-4, Evolution has incorporated the Conax CAS7 DVB-C security system and adapted it to meet North American requirements, such as CableCARD and tru2way. This provides an open-standard conditional access system, which for the first time, enables North American cable operators a wide choice of headend equipment and set-top boxes to break the duopoly that has restricted the deployment of enhanced digital services.

At the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo (Booth # 2553), Evolution will be showcasing their MPEG-4 headend with HD and SD content from Avail Media being displayed on state of the art interactive MPEG-4 HD and MPEG-4 HD DVR set-top boxes.
