A drop solution simply built for today's complex networks
(Centennial, Colorado - October 27, 2009) Evolution Broadband, leading manufacturer of innovative drop installation and all-digital solutions for the North American cable market, will be demonstrating their latest technology in the line of enhanced Entry Series this week at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo. The enhanced Entry Series line provides the ultimate drop solution, engineered for home networking applications, designed to optimize the network for DOCSIS 3.0 and improves overall node health.
Evolution will be showcasing two of their latest innovative technologies, including an enhanced Entry Series and Passive Entry Series. Evolution's first generation Entry Series has been deployed in multiple systems throughout North America with great success. The unique form factor and functionality built with MoCA in mind has lead the way to streamlining the drop installation process, cleaning up issues inherent to complex multiple service installations. The newest generation of products, including an enhanced Entry Series is built to allow MoCA gateways to be installed on the life-line port while still communicating with the output ports in the MoCA frequencies. In addition, Evolution will be displaying a line of passive MoCA Entry Series, enabling cable operators to deploy in a future proofing effort preparing for the launch of home networking in installations where house amplifiers are not needed.
The enhanced Entry Series filter out MoCA frequencies at the INPUT port keeping the home network contained and reduces port-to-port isolation in the 1125-1525 MHz frequency range. "Evolution's enhanced Entry Series has been developed for use with MoCA-enabled eMTAs and Gateways. The all passive low-loss Voice Modem/eMTA port is connected to the active output ports at MoCA frequencies, allowing for communication between the eMTA/Gateway and set-top boxes or other MoCA-enabled devices on the network," explains Chad Wells, Director of Product Development for Evolution.
Evolution engineers have designed the enhanced Entry Series to help optimize the network for DOCSIS 3.0. The Entry Series aides in maximizing the use of upstream channel bonding by minimizing return path noise. When devices on the active ports are not transmitting signals, the upstream from 5-42 MHz is filtered out, drastically reducing return path noise being put out on the cable plant. When typical active return amplifiers are installed at a customer's home all the noise generated from the home is amplified and sent upstream. The noise is added to noise from other homes in the area and can wreak havoc on upstream laser transmitters. With the enhanced Entry Series noise in the return path is only present when there is a transmission signal from the modem; otherwise all the noise is essentially eliminated. This reduction of noise has a two-fold effect. It allows for the use of more complex modulation schemes (e.g. 64-QAM, etc.) which are more sensitive to noise and it makes more effective use of the 5-15 MHz spectrum, which is typically unusable due to excessive noise.
The Evolution enhanced Entry Series improves node health by cleaning up the drop and eliminating the downside of active return amplifiers. By reducing the number of components at an installation by as much as 60% the potential craft error is greatly reduced, which in turn minimizes the potential for ingress. In addition, the substantial reduction of noise in the return path greatly improves node health.
